The piano piano Festival presents: the new concert series “Jazz & World in der Kirche” in Marburg.
Starting in September 2021, our new concert series “Jazz & World in der Kirche” will take place regularly at the Lutheran Parish Church of St. Marien in Marburg.

12.09.2021 – Aki Rissanen Trio – “Art in Motion”
The Finnish pianist Aki Rissanen (born 1980), described by Downbeat as a “European shooting star”, has managed to make a name for himself among the top ranks of Northern European jazz pianists in a very short time. Classically trained, Rissanen has always been fascinated by improvisation.

Much has already been reported about this crazy transatlantic biography that took a young maiden from the Californian Bay Area to “Wallis Wonderland”. “Global jazz”, pure vocal artistry? The press wrote, among other things: “Vocal action art between Laurie Anderson, Meredith Monk and Tom Waits” Stereoplay and the FAZ recorded “There are not many female vocalists of Erika Stucky’s kind” Undercover is the name of her current programme.

18.11.2021 – Emil Brandqvist Trio – “Entering The Woods”
The secret of this trio lies in the rare gift of having developed a sound all of its own, which is characterised by the filigree sound paintings of Emil Brandqvist on drums and the sometimes sensitively plucked, sometimes rapidly rolling neo-classicisms of the Finnish pianist Tuomas A. Turunen. The stoically driving force in the double bass playing of Max Thornberg. Piano jazz can seem so relaxed!

Joy of playing and masterly skill – colourful compositions, inspired improvisations and intuitive playing blend into a harmonious whole, unimagined sounds are elicited from the instruments. All musicians also use electronic extensions of their instruments. They are at home with virtuosity in both the classical genre and jazz and set high standards for their sound culture, always searching for the ‘magic moment’ on stage. A captivating musical experience.
