The new Ragawerk album, titled “Niḷa,” is released today. On their second album, Max Clouth and Martin Standke combine jazz, electronica, Krautrock, and Indian ragas to create a fascinating fusion of sounds. With atmospheric guitars, driving drums, bass, and exotic percussion instruments, they create a sound that ranges from earthy directness to cosmic clarity. The voices of Shruti Ramani, Sophie-Justine Herr, and Valeria Maurer lend additional depth to individual tracks. “Niḷa”—Sanskrit for blue—reflects the nuances of light and color in each piece and invites listeners to enjoy a magical, meditative listening experience. Critics praise the band for their floating soundscapes and the perfect balance between improvisation and composition. With crystalline, spacey sounds, Ragawerk opens up wide horizons.
