Benjamin Lackner Quintet at Lab 3 in Biebertal on May 13, 2026
International Quintet on European Tour with a Concert in Biebertal
On Wednesday, May 13, 2026, at 7:30 p.m., we are pleased to present the Benjamin Lackner Quintet at LAB 3 in Biebertal as part of an ECM Night.
The quintet brings together five distinctive voices from the European jazz scene, with Maciej Obara and Mathias Eick as the driving forces on the front line. Led by German-American pianist and composer Benjamin Lackner, the quintet is rooted in a strong melodic signature, finely nuanced ensemble interaction, and a shared sensitivity to space, timbre, and narrative flow. Trumpeter Mathias Eick, known for his unmistakable tone and lyrical Nordic aesthetic, is one of the most influential voices in contemporary European jazz. As a longtime artist on the ECM Records label, he lends the quintet’s music clarity and emotional depth. Alto saxophonist Maciej Obara, also an ECM recording artist, is widely known for his expressive intensity and his sculptural approach to improvisation. The quintet’s sound is characterized by elegantly interwoven horn lines, expansive harmonies, and a clear focus on ensemble chemistry rather than superficial virtuosity.
Lineup:
Benjamin Lackner – piano
Mathias Eick – trumpet
Maciej Obara – saxophone
Paul Kleber – bass
Matthieu Chazarenc – drums
