The Viennese world traveler Ida Pfeiffer traveled around the globe twice on her own in the 19th century – at a time when women were hardly allowed to leave their homes, let alone their home countries. Inspired by her captivating travel diaries, jazz pianist Martin Listabarth and his trio embark on a musical journey through her life.
In sensitive, powerful, and sometimes playfully witty compositions, Listabarth tells stories of early dreams, forbidden love, desert caravans, encounters with foreign cultures – and of an unquenchable inner urge to discover the world.
But this is about more than historical anecdotes: Ida Pfeiffer’s life touches on universal themes such as departure, curiosity, disappointment, courage, and the breaking of boundaries. Martin Listabarth turns her story into a soundtrack for the here and now. The music blends poetic storytelling with the energy of improvisation – at times tender, at times wild, but always rich in atmosphere. An album full of wanderlust, emotion, and the joy of discovery.
