On September 12th, 2025, the Finnish pianist Aki Rissanen will release his new album “Imaginary Mountains” (Edition Records), featuring a total of 12 songs with a total playing time of just over 47 minutes. Following albums such as “Amorandom” and “Art in Motion,” Rissanen has opted for a rougher, more physical sound this time around, one that is more strongly characterized by rhythm and repetition. Together with his long-time companions Teppo Mäkynen (drums) and Antti Lötjönen (bass), Rissanen creates music full of energy, intuition, and spontaneous intensity. Pieces such as For E, a tribute to Erik Satie, or İki Keklik, an adaptation of a Turkish folk song, combine abstraction with memory and cultural references. Imaginary Mountains is Rissanen’s most immediate trio statement to date – moving, demanding, and full of emotional tension.
